The PatchManagement mailing list is the industry's first discussion list dedicated to discussing security patch management topics. This list discusses the how-to's and why's of security patch management across a broad spectrum of Operating Systems, Applications, and Network Devices. This list is meant as an aid to network and systems administrators and security professionals who are responsible for maintaining the security posture of their hosts and applications.

0.1.2 What is appropriate content?

Please follow the below guidelines on what kind of information should be posted to the PatchManagement mailing list:

  • Notifications from vendors of new or re-released patches.
  • Recommended or suggested methodologies for patch management
  • Economics of patch management.
  • User experiences with various patches.
  • "How To" questions about assessing and deploying patches.
  • Thoughts, tips, tricks, and techniques for managing patches in the enterprise.
  • Discussion of tools and/or products that may assist in the scanning, assessment, deployment, and validation of patches.
  • Follow up discussions related to patch management topics in the news.
  • Announcements of new or improved patch management products or service offerings.
  • Risk Management.

0.1.3 What is inappropriate content?

  • Announcement of security vulnerabilities.
  • Product advertisements.
  • Discussion of non-patch related issues.
  • Non-computer/network security related material.
  • Technical support for patch management products is not appropriate for the list. Please address technical support issues to the vendor of the product in question. If the vendor is being non-responsive, you may then post the question to the list for moderation.
  • HTML E-Mails are not accepted on the list and may be rejected by the moderators. Please send E-Mails as plain text messages.
  • Attachments are not accepted on the list and will be rejected by the moderators

Yes. Vendors are encouraged to participate on the list. We require that vendors identify their affiliations. A vendor is someone who makes money (or hopes to) from the types of products or services discussed on this list. Unless noted otherwise, their comments are assumed to reflect their personal opinions, not that of their employer.
